Rockford, Ill., – The Rockford College Department of Chemical and Biological Sciences and by the Alpha Helix student organization are hosting a series of presentations from the 2010 Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Holiday Lectures. The lectures are free and open to the public.
All presentations will be held at 5 p.m. in the Starr Science building, Rm. 207, 5050 East State Street. Rockford College Professors will introduce each lecture and provide additional context on the subject. The lectures will focus on several aspects of research, including: epidemiology, virus identification, viral treatment and control, and combating new and unidentified viruses. It delves into the social, cultural, and biological aspects of viruses and outbreaks.
Lecture dates and topics are:
Tuesday, October 23 – “Dengue Fever: Breaking Epidemic Cycles”
Tuesday, October 30 – “The Virus Hunter’s Toolkit,” an exploration of what actually goes into viral research,
Tuesday, November 6 – “Fighting Viruses in the Lab and Beyond”
Tuesday, November 13 – “Solving SARS and Other Viral Mysteries”
