More than $1,700 raised for Rockford’s sister city

ROCKFORD, Ill. (Apr. 7, 2022) – In honor of its 175th anniversary, Rockford University, the region’s leading private four-year educational institution, held a faculty and staff talent show, which raised money for Ukrainian relief efforts.

Held on March 19, 2022, at the Maddox Theatre, the “Regent Revels” featured music, comedy, dance, and more performed by the university’s faculty and staff for the amusement of students and guests. For every person that attended the free event, Rockford University pledged a donation in support of Ukrainian relief.

In total, the show raised $1,750, which was donated to the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois’s fund for Brovary, Ukraine, Rockford’s sister city.

“Initially our plan to hold the Revels was born out of a desire to revive a fun tradition as part of our 175th anniversary celebrations,” said Rockford University President Dr. Eric W. Fulcomer. “When the conflict in Ukraine unfolded it also gave us the opportunity to support relief efforts in our sister city of Brovary.”

The faculty and staff talent show was once an annual event at Rockford University. Previously known as the “Faculty Follies,” the show began in 1997 during the university’s 150th anniversary celebration. The last Follies was held in 2001. In honor of the university’s 175th anniversary, the faculty and staff decided to bring back the tradition.
