Welcome Letter

Welcome! As a member of the Rockford University community, you join many students, faculty, staff, and alumni who demonstrate genuine care about you as a person and who will offer you their time and expertise. You can expect to matter and to have the entire campus, available to you for support.

Being a member of the Rockford University community also comes with expectations of you. First and foremost, we expect you to take responsibility for yourself, your learning, and your engagement. Second, we expect you to contribute. RU offers many opportunities for personal development, social interaction, and cultural enrichment. Getting involved in theater, student government, civic engagement opportunities, or any of our many student organizations will help you develop transferable skills, friendships, and make your years here more memorable. Involvement in practicum and internship experiences will broaden your awareness, spark life-long interests, and expand the skills you offer future employers. Finally, and most importantly, your involvement will ensure that this University community continues to deliver a quality experience that is life enhancing.

The Student Handbook serves to familiarize all students with general information about Rockford University’s services and policies.  While the Student Handbook is comprehensive and applicable to all students, it is not a contract between the University and its students.  It is not written with the specificity of a criminal statute, and it is not an exhaustive attempt to codify every possible type of problematic behavior.

The Student Handbook may be altered by the University at any time.  Whenever any revisions are made to the Handbook, the campus community will be notified.  The most current version of the Student Handbook can always be found on the Rockford University website.

Again, welcome to RU!!  It’s going to be a great year and we look forward to supporting your academic and personal success at Rockford University!!
