Associated Colleges of Illinois (ACI) Virtual Work and Life Skills Boot Camp: Who am I? Where am I going? How will I get there?

Understand how liberal arts studies translate into the workplace, how campus activities build a marketable resume and how to create your job search toolbox.
• Workplace Uses of Your Liberal Arts Education: Nancy E. Arnesen, PhD, Professor of English, North Park University considers how liberal arts education interacts with a satisfying career, why employers often value liberal arts graduates, and how to leverage the workplace competencies that a liberal arts education provides.
• Your Career Path Tool Box – College Experiences that Promote Job Search Success: Melissa Muth Martinez, Student Success Coordinator, Maria Gutierrez, Associate Director of Career Development & Student Success, Dominican University, explore the group activities, leadership positions, jobs, coursework and projects that can translate into a winning resume for entry level work.
• Your Career Path Tool Box – Resumes, Elevator Speeches and Other Tools of the Career Development Process: Emmanuel Ndifor, Head of Growth at Upkey, will walk participants through Upkey’s resume building resource and other useful tools from Upkey’s web-based, interactive service, designed to support professional success and dramatically improve the chances of career placement after graduation.
• Becoming – Growing Beyond the Labels of “Low-Income, First-Generation or Student of Color” to Career Success: Jessica Brown, Dean of Student Services, Engagement & Leadership, Eureka College, moderates a panel of early career men and women who explain how they decided who they were, what they wanted, and how to get it.
• Financial Literacy Session: Building Credit: PNC Bank’s financial wellness team explains the how’s and why’s of credit – so students are ready to take charge of their “credit life” even before they graduate.
Attend all or part of the day as your schedule permits. Sessions will be “locked” 10 minutes after they begin, so please be prompt. All sessions will be recorded and will be available to students at ACI member institutions after the Boot Camp.
