Assistant Professor of Education, Tenure-track

Rockford University is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Education position within the Education Department starting Fall 2025.

The Education Department at Rockford University includes a traditional undergraduate program and a Master of Education in Teaching (MAT) program that lead to a Professional Educator License (PEL) in Illinois.

This position will teach four courses per semester. In-person and nighttime teaching will be required. This position will work closely with the Director of Teacher Preparation and other licensing faculty and staff to support students in their field and work with community/district partners in collaborative efforts. 

Candidates must have an appropriate terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D). Candidates must also have a record of successful teaching, and at least four years’ experience in a relevant setting (K-12 school setting), preferably in the state of Illinois.  Recent college-level teaching experience is highly desirable but not required. Experience in the secondary and/or middle grades fields is also preferred. The successful applicant must have an educational philosophy compatible with a private, liberal arts institution.

Additional Job Description Requirements:

  • Teach courses in Teacher Preparation Program
    • Possible courses include: Educational Psychology, Introduction to Teaching, Cultivating Classroom Ecosystems, Student Teaching Seminar, Middle Grades/High School Content Methods Courses
  • Together, with the Director of Teacher Preparation,
    • Support students through tutoring and review sessions of Content Tests and state-required portfolio work
    • Collaborate with Community/District Partners
    • Observe Practicum students in the field
