Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Tenure-track

The Chemical & Biological Sciences Department at Rockford University is seeking an effective and enthusiastic organic chemistry professor with evidence of excellence in teaching. We also seek to integrate scientific thinking into the broader university curriculum through imaginative courses and faculty collaboration across the disciplines. Therefore, candidates with teaching interests that span other fields, especially environmental chemistry are encouraged to apply. An active program in undergraduate research with students will also be expected as well as service within the department and university. Our biochemistry/chemistry program has a nice complement of instrumentation, including FT-NMR (60-MHz), FT-IR, pulsed laser system, GC, GC-MS, HPLC, FPLC, and AA. Passion for teaching in a small-college liberal arts setting is essential. The position to begin August 2025.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Organic chemistry and related areas with a 12 contact hour/load per semester
  • Mentor and advise undergraduate students, fostering their academic and professional growth.
  • Participate in curriculum development and program assessment to ensure academic excellence.
  • Engage in scholarly activity.
  • Engage in university service, including committee participation and departmental meetings.
  • Engage with community outreach and interdisciplinary initiatives within the university.
  • Stay current with developments in the field and integrate new knowledge into teaching and research.
  • Provide students access to one-on-one interaction through set office hours.

Education:  Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry or related field is required

Preferred Qualifications:  Interest in developing courses in environmental chemistry or other chemical field. Experience in curriculum development and program assessment.

Experience:  Demonstrated expertise in successful higher education teaching, particularly in organic chemistry. Experience mentoring students at the undergraduate level.
