Assistant Professor and Student Success Librarian, Tenure-track

The Assistant Professor and Student Success Librarian provides instruction, research support, and outreach services to students across the university. This position also serves as a liaison between other academic support offices and programs and is responsible for supporting the library’s efforts to increase academic success and retention. This 12 month, tenure-track faculty contract offers a rich benefits package, upon hire, including generous paid time off, medical, dental, vision, retirement plan with match, doctoral assistance and tuition remission for employee, spouse/partner and dependents.
Essential Job Duties
- Lead the library’s information literacy program, including offering for-credit information literacy courses.
- Work collaboratively with faculty and library colleagues to offer synchronous and asynchronous information literacy instruction, develop learning objects, and create other teaching materials to improve students’ information literacy skills.
- Develop and implement outcomes assessment measures and maintain detailed records for assessment of the Libraries’ instruction and orientation program.
- Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with other campus offices and programs across the university.
- Measure learning outcomes and assess programs to regularly improve library offerings.
- Identify and address barriers to student use of library collections, services, and spaces and collaboratively work with library staff to address them.
- Participate in the university’s orientation activities.
- Keep current on trends and developments in information literacy, library instruction, and the library’s role in supporting student success.
- Contribute to instructional design initiatives on campus.
- Provide reference and research consultations for students across academic disciplines.
- Contribute to collection development of print and non-print resources.
- Attend library, university, and consortium meetings.
- Fill in as required by staff absences or special needs as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent
- Knowledge of trends, methods, and best practices in library support of student engagement and success
- Understanding of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education and ability to teach library sessions
- A vision for the role of the library in advancing student academic success and retention
- Strong commitment to patron service and the ability to develop collaborative relationships with students and faculty
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability and willingness to work both collaboratively and independently
- Ability to effectively communicate ideas and information in both verbal and written form
- Ability to work independently and multitask
- Ability to locate and retrieve library materials in a variety of formats throughout the building, as well as from remote locations through networks including the Internet
- Ability to assist patrons with location and retrieval of materials or information by title, subject, and interest of library patrons
- Demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities in working with faculty, staff and students with diverse backgrounds including academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation, and disabilities
- Exercise good judgment in making decisions and solving problems
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of relevant academic or research library experience
- Experience developing library programming
- Experience creating learning objects
- Understanding and using assessment tools and techniques
Physical Requirements
- Some bending, lifting (at least 50 lbs), reaching overhead, stretching
- Able to stand for extended periods
