Assistant Athletic Trainer

Rockford University invites candidates for the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer.  The selected candidate will serve as an assistant to the athletic training staff for fall, winter, spring, and off-season events for men’s and women’s athletics. They will work under the direction of the athletic training staff, helping with preparation for events and practices as well as perform the duties involved with prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.  A rich benefits package is available upon hire including: Medical, dental, vision, retirement plan with match, tuition remission for employee/spouse/domestic partner and dependents.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to assist Head Athletic Trainer with:

  • Coverage of assigned sports’ practices and games home and away, including setting up, pre- and post-game treatments, response to injuries through field evaluations and first aid (this will include weekends and possible holidays)
  • Responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for student-athletes.
  • Administer first aid to injured athletes and apply protective devices such as taping, bandaging or bracing.
  • Communicate with athletes and coaches about the injury and the athlete’s participation status
  • Arrange and administer Sway Medical Concussion Testing
  • Arrange and communicate medical appointments between physicians and athletes.
  • Assist in record keeping and documentation for files using Athletic Trainer System (ATS)
  • Assist with daily functions of the Athletic Training Room
  • Assist with supervision of student workers/interns in the Athletic Training Room
  • Other duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training
  • Master’s degree in athletic training or related field is preferred
  • Two years of athletic training experience at the collegiate level is preferred
  • Must have certification through the NATA BOC and be eligible or have Illinois licensure by start date
  • CPR/AED Certified for the Professional Rescuer
  • Remain HIPPA and OSHA compliant
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a schedule
  • Valid driver’s license/ personal automobile insurance and insurable for driving per RU policy
  • Ability to travel with assigned teams as necessary
  • Availability to work days, evenings and weekends a must

Work Environment:

Employees work in an athletic setting. This includes indoor and outdoor settings depending on the athletic season.
