A Few Scenarios

Financial aid packages are personalized to each student. The below scenarios should only be used as a guide to understand what options are available to pay for your Rockford University education. When you receive your estimated or official financial aid package, aid based on your academic achievement, FAFSA results, housing plans, and unique situation will be presented.

Bobby

Bobby is a new first-year student from Illinois that is planning to live on campus. He has a 3.0 GPA and an 1120 on his SAT. He received his Student Aid Report (his FAFSA results) and he has an estimated family contribution (EFC) of $13,000. His financial aid package provided the following:

$13,000: Rockford University Scholarship
$5,000: Rockford University Grant
$5,500: Federal Loans

Bobby’s parents applied for the Parent Plus loan and were approved. Bobby also contributed money from his 529 savings plan. Because he plans to work on campus to cover the remaining balance, he set up a payment plan.

Janet

Janet is a new first-year student from Texas with a 3.60 GPA and an 1190 SAT score. She plans to live on campus and her EFC (Estimated Family Contribution) is $0. Her financial aid package included the following:

$14,000: Rockford University Scholarship
$5,920: Pell Grant
$3,000: Rockford University Out-of-State Grant
$2,000: Rockford University Grant
$5,500: Federal Loans

Janet’s parents applied for the Parent Plus loan and were denied. Due to the denial, Janet was offered an additional $4,000 in unsubsidized federal loans. Janet worked all summer to help pay for college and she applied those dollars to her bill. She also took out an additional private loan to cover the balance.
