I Philosophy I Faculty & Staff

Thank you for visiting our department website.

Students interested in declaring a philosophy major or minor at Rockford are encouraged to explore the faculty links here. We welcome all inquiries.

Philosophy plays a central role in the liberal arts curriculum. The philosophy courses offered at Rockford range from one-hundred level-introduction, ethics, and logic-to three-hundred level historical survey courses. In addition, students may take special topics courses in subjects such as free speech and censorship, American philosophy, and philosophy of art.

A philosophy degree, despite common prejudice, is one of the more marketable among liberal arts degrees. Even when uninterested in pursuing academic careers, philosophy graduates regularly gain professional entry in corporate and legal fields. Graduates of the philosophy program at Rockford can expect to have a well-rounded familiarity both with major figures and themes in the history of Western philosophy, and a unique understanding of important movements and figures in both the 19th and 20th centuries.

So welcome and have a look around!
